COSMETIC DENTISTRY IN SARASOTA, FL

According to a study commissioned by the American Association of Orthodontists, as many as one in three Americans feel negatively about their smile. This statistic is saddening since a bright smile greatly impacts how you’re perceived, which can translate into greater success in your love life and your career. Fortunately, if you are unhappy with your smile, you can have it changed with cosmetic dentistry.

GET THE SMILE YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED

At Kenneth M. Schweizer, DDS and Jillian F. Porto, DMD, we offer a wide range of cosmetic dentistry services to patients in the Sarasota, FL, area. Our dental services can help you get the smile of your dreams. For example, here are few common dental problems we can correct and how we do so:

  • Cracked or chipped teeth. We can easily fix broken teeth using dental bonding, which is the application of a tooth-colored material to the problem areas on your teeth.
  • Gaps between teeth. Dental bonding can also be used to close the spaces between teeth. Or we can apply dental veneers, which are thin pieces of porcelain, to achieve the same result.
  • Gummy smile. Do your gums show a little too much when you smile? If so, we can offer you laser gum contouring to even out your gum line and let your pearly whites show through.
  • Stained or discolored teeth. Food, drinks, and age can all take a toll on your teeth. Let us bring back the natural radiance of your teeth with whitening services.
  • Unevenly shaped teeth. Are your front teeth a little too big for your liking? Don’t worry; we can even out your smile using realistic veneers

TYPES OF COSMETIC DENTISTRY TREATMENT

Veneers

Dental veneers are a thin shell crafted from composite or porcelain material. Dr. Schweizer custom makes them and cements them to the front of your tooth. Dental veneers are a treatment option that can be used for treating dental problems, like:

  • Teeth that are discolored
  • A slightly crooked tooth
  • Cover spaces between your teeth
  • Chipped teeth
Teeth Whitening

One basic cosmetic dentistry procedure is teeth whitening or teeth bleaching and Dr. Schweizer can perform it right in the office. He’ll typically perform whitening after he cleans the tartar, plaque and other debris from the surface of each of your teeth to restore their natural-looking appearance. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), teeth whitening is also used for achieving a lighter shade than the teeth’s original color.

Your teeth become worn and stained over the years from things like:

  • Food
  • Beverages
  • Smoking and other personal habits
  • Medication

Teeth whitening will coat your teeth, eliminating the stains.

Dental Bonding
Dr. Schweizer can repair broken, chipped, decayed or discolored teeth or correct their appearance with a composite dental bonding procedure. He’ll apply a type of composite material that looks like dentin and enamel on the surface of your tooth or into a cavity, where he’ll then sculpt it into shape, contour it and harden it with a high-intensity light. This results in a restoration that will blend with your remaining surrounding tooth structure invisibility as well as the rest of your natural teeth, creating a bright, healthy smile.
Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are known as caps that Dr. Schweizer custom makes to fit over your entire tooth after he prepares it. They’re typically crafted from porcelain or acrylic that’s been joined to metal for withstanding biting pressure. In cosmetic dentistry, dental crowns can be used for treating teeth that are:

  • Poorly decayed
  • Badly shaped
  • Chipped
  • Broken
  • Have had big fillings

They can also be used for covering gaps between your teeth.

Inlays and Onlays

Also referred to as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are crafted from porcelain, gold or composite materials. They fill damaged or decayed teeth. Dr. Schweizer molds the dental fillings into place during your visit in the office, however, the inlays and onlays are actually made in the dental lab and are bonded into place by Dr. Schweizer.

When Dr. Schweizer bonds the material within the center of your tooth, it’s referred to as “inlay.” When it covers your biting surface or when the filling has one or more points included, it’s referred to as “onlay.” Inlays and onlays help to preserve as much of your healthy tooth as possible. Dentists use them as an alternative to crowns.

Dental Implants

Our dentist in Sarasota, FL uses dental implants to replace your teeth after you’ve experienced tooth loss. He’ll insert a small titanium screw into your jaw at the location of your missing tooth. This will serve as the crown’s support.

Often, you can’t distinguish dental implants from your surrounding natural teeth and after the supporting tissue and bone fuse to the dental implant, they’re secured permanently into place. You will need to practice good oral hygiene during your dental implant placement period to eliminate all food debris and plaque from the area.
